That can be regrown and shot out of his arm. However, after powering up he grows six arms and his own strange scythe-like weapons becomes six double-bladed scythes, that he wields all at once. His original weapon isn't really a scythe so much as a pair of opposite-facing crescent blade stuck to the end of a long pole. He specifically states that he actually dislikes the weapon for its Sinister Scythe connotations. Shuhei Hisagi's Zanpakuto Kazeshini, which is a pair of chained together sickle-like weapons.Black★Rock Shooter: Dead Master wields the black Dead Scythe. His spells are named "Death Scythe", and they can adapt to cut through anything by changing the blades' nature and sharpness. Black Clover: The blades formed from Jack the Ripper's Severing Magic resemble the curved blades of a scythe.Black Butler: Among the supposed members of the Shinigami Dispatch Association, only one has an actual scythe in possession - a rogue shinigami named Undertaker.Basilisk: Chikuma Koshirou dual wields two kama scythes that return to his hands when thrown.and immediately makes an extremely corny pun. Aoi House: Once the series gets around to parodying action/horror, Elle Mathers gets a scythe.07-Ghost: The title characters each carry a BFS (Big Fucking Scythe).See also Sinister Switchblade and Sinister Shiv, other bladed weapons associated with unsavory people. Hammer and Sickle when paired with Drop the Hammer. Kamaitachi and Slaying Mantis will often be portrayed with a pair of these. See Real Life examples below for when they've been weaponized in real life. In Japan they're commonly associated with ninjas due to being a mundane tool that happens to be great for killing, perfect for deadly assassins masquerading as peasants beneath notice.īecause scythes and sickles have such specific connotations in fiction nowadays, simple farmers are rarely depicted using them, so pitchforks are their melee weapon of choice in most armed-serf situations. What they lack in weight, they compensate with their ability to trap a sword with one blade and deliver the killing blow with the other. Like its cousin the battle axe, don't be surprised if a fictional scythe is several times larger than anything you'd find in the real world.Ī related weapon is the sickle, also known as the kama in Japan: a smaller, handheld scythe that is often duel-wielded in combat. While farming scythes will only have the sharp edge on the inner curve, a war scythe will likely be sharp on both sides. But even keeping the blade perpendicular to the shaft has its own benefits, such as being harder for the opponent to predict and building armor-piercing momentum in its swing, with the added bonus of being able to cut an opponent in half once you've impaled them. Scythes have been used as polearms before in real life, though this usually involved straightening the blade into something more like a large spear. It is also likely to mark the special or dangerous enemy, as well as the macabre touch brought on by evoking The Grim Reaper. But in the arms of a skilled fighter-especially one whose social class forbids him from owning conventional weaponry-it's as lethal as any sword or mace. Everyone is happy (ish, at least). The scythe is a farming tool whose primary purpose is to mow grass and harvest grain. People who actually like shotgun spam can play deadeye, and people who think shotgun spam on a ranged class is silly can play gunslinger. On the other hand, if they move those changes into a separate class (gunslinger), then they don't have to kill off current deadeye. If the devs nerf the shotgun, then deadeye's current playstyle sort of disappears, and most current deadeye mains would likely be sort of sad. And if the devs buff sniper skills, they'd probably have to nerf shotgun skills, or else deadeye would likely be overpowered. However, I have to assume that most current deadeye mains like the class's current playstyle, because if they didn't, I assume that they'd switch and play something else. Like, I agree that a "ranged" class having a playstyle that's all about getting into melee range with a shotgun is not ideal. I mean, I'm going to assume that they will try to avoid leaving the originals in the dustbin balance-wise (and afaik, deadeye/devil hunter isn't terrible here), but changing deadeye's playstyle to not be shotgun focused would require larger changes that the devs may be hesitant to do. It would make sense for the devs to look at the issues with the original classes and try to release gender swaps that avoid them. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if gender flipped classes continue to be somewhat nicer to play overall than the originals.
